Swords of the Highlander Films and Series

Back in the 1980’s, the film Highlander became hugely popular, with cult film fans, featuring numerous exciting sword fights, a great villain and a spectacular piece of miscasting with Frenchman, Christopher Lambert playing a Scotsman (Connor McLeod), and the very Scottish Sean Connery playing Juan Sanchez Vlla-Lobos Ramirez! Despite the quirky accents, the film gained [...]

Collectors Guide To Lightsabers

Perhaps the most famous prop weapon in the history of movies is the lightsaber, used by both the brave Jedi Knights and the evil Sith Lords, in George Lucas’s Star Wars film series. This iconic movie weapon is one of the most coveted movie memorabilia, and not surprisingly, the originals props used in the movies [...]

    • Martin Freeman Indeed First Choice For Bilbo in ‘The Hobbit,’ May Still Play the Part
Yesterday there was a rumor, sourced from the UK tabloid The Sun, that Martin Freeman was being courted to play Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, and that he'd turned down the role because of his commitment to the BBC series Sherlock. I was dismissive of the report because The Sun doesn't exactly have a magnificent track record. (It's positively dismal, actually.) But a new report says that not only was Freeman the first choice to play Bilbo, but that negotiations are ongoing that could still see him in the part. EW quotes unnamed sources close to The Hobbit, which say that New Line and MGM are working with Freeman to find a schedule that would allow him to do both Sherlock and The Hobbit. That would be a huge deal for the actor, who already has a sizable presence in the UK thanks to The Office and Sherlock. If he did ...
    • Martin Freeman For Bilbo In 'The Hobbit'? Still A Possibility, Sources Say
For serious fans, the still-under-construction road to "The Hobbit" has been nothing short of an emotional roller coaster. First Guillermo del Toro was directing, then he wasn't. Now we're anxiously waiting to see if Peter Jackson will take the gig. Beyond that, there have been studio woes, casting rumors galore, will-they-or-won't-they debates over who's coming [...]
    • LOL: Screenwriter Who Wrote the “Jump the Shark” Episode of Happy Days Finally Steps Forward to Defend His Work
You might not recognize Fred Fox Jr's name, but he is the screenwriter credited for writing the now-infamous "Hollywood 3" episode of Happy Days which involved Henry Winkler as Fonzie waterskiing over a shark. The term "Jump The Shark", coined by Jon Hein (now of the Howard Stern Show), refers to the precise moment when a television series went downhill. Thirty three years after the episode aired on television, and twenty years after the term entered the pop culture lexicon, Fox has come forward to defend his work. Fox wrote an op-ed article in The Los Angeles Times defending his work on the infamous "jump the shark" episode of Happy Days: "All successful shows eventually start to decline, but this was not “Happy Days’” time. Consider: It was the 91st episode and the fifth season. If this was really the beginning of a downward spiral, why did the show stay on the ...
    • Tron Legacy Soundtrack Website Launches
Briefly: There's not a lot to report here yet, but the website for Daft Punk's soundtrack to Tron Legacy has launched. (EDIT: And I've been sent some info suggesting that this may be yet another fake Daft Punk / Tron product. Looking for more info, but if that's the case I'm pretty impressed with the tenacity of the fakers.) The primary benefit of this event is not the mailing list for which you can sign up, which will presumably deliver info about the soundtrack. No, it's the one track that loops as the background music for the site. We've heard snippets of it in the trailers, but if you're as hungry for the new Daft Punk material as I am, this could be the best thing to score your workday. I've been looping the track for over an hour now, and it's a great subliminal addition to the afternoon. There's no ...
    • Disney Promotes ‘Tangled’ with Double Rainbow Parody
Pictured above: My reaction to Disney's "Double Rainbow" parody. The window of opportunity to take advantage of an Internet meme tends to be approximately a week or two, depending on the lasting value of the meme, and missing that window can mark the difference between a video/image that's lauded as comedic brilliance and one that's subjected to savage ridicule. Disney missed the window by about two months. Watch the video, and join in on the ridicule, after the break. Cartoon Brew found the vid, which on top of already being dated, reeks of a marketing campaign that's trying way too hard to be funny, hip and topical. Wise up, Disney. This is not how you work the viral marketing angle. No matter how popular and amusing an online clip may be, using it to sell your movie only serves to lower people's opinion of it, regardless of the quality of the actual film. It's ...
